Pontiac GTO
Immobilizer Repair &
Key Programming
Your GTO won't start after an ECM reprogram — and your shop has never seen a security system like this before. That's because it's not a GM system. It's a Holden. We know how to fix it.

The Problem: It's Not a Normal GM
The 2004–2006 Pontiac GTO is a rebadged Holden Monaro — an Australian car with a GM powertrain bolted in. Sitting between the Holden body electronics and the GM engine computer is a unique module called the PIM (Powertrain Interface Module), which acts as a translator and security gateway.
The immobilizer system links three modules — BCM, PIM, and ECM — with shared security credentials. When the ECM is reprogrammed (flashed, updated, or replaced), its stored immobilizer password gets wiped. The ECM-to-PIM security link drops, and the engine won't crank.
This is completely different from any other GM security system. There's no 30-minute relearn. No key cycle procedure. The only way to fix it is to relink the ECM to the PIM using the correct security PIN through a pass-through programming procedure.
Common Symptoms
- →No-crank / no-start after ECM reprogramming or replacement
- →Engine may crank and fire briefly, then stall immediately
- →Security / immobilizer telltale light illuminated
- →Fault code P0633 — Immobilizer Function Not Programmed
- →Companion fault stored in PIM
- →30-minute relearn doesn't work (that's Passlock — the GTO uses IMMO)
Why Most Shops Get Stuck
Holden, Not GM
The GTO's immobilizer is a Holden system — Immobilizer 3 — not a GM Passlock or conventional theft deterrent. US-market shops and tools often don't have Holden/Australian software coverage, so the right procedures simply aren't in their menus.
PIN Recovery
The relink requires a 4-digit security PIN. Getting it through the dealer often requires the registered owner to appear in person with proof of ownership. If the card is lost and the dealer won't cooperate, most shops are dead in the water.
Modern Tools Can Fail
Even GM's current programming tools (SPS2/TLC) can accept the correct PIN and then error out on the relink step. The reliable fix often requires legacy tooling that most shops no longer have or know how to use.
What We Do
We've worked through the GTO's Holden immobilizer system from end to end — including the failure modes, the tool quirks, and the PIN recovery paths that most shops never encounter. Whether it's a no-start after an ECM flash or an all-keys-lost situation, we have the procedures and tooling to resolve it.
ECM Immobilizer Relink
- • Recover from no-start after ECM programming
- • ECM-to-PIM security relink (pass-through)
- • Security PIN recovery when the card is lost
- • P0633 resolution
- • ECM replacement and programming
Key & Fob Programming
- • Program new or additional keys and fobs
- • All-keys-lost recovery
- • BCM-to-PIM security linking
- • Holden Immobilizer 3 specific procedures
- • Full security code recovery when needed
Why This Matters to GTO Owners
The 2004–2006 GTO is becoming a collectible. Finding a shop that can properly service the immobilizer system — without guessing, without brute-forcing lockout timers, and without recommending an ECM swap as a first option — is getting harder. We treat these cars with the knowledge they require.

GTO Won't Start After Programming?
If your GTO is sitting with a security light on and a P0633 code after an ECM flash, don't let another shop guess at it. This is a Holden immobilizer problem, and we have the fix.
